Mannequin hands, are they right for you?

The latest buzz to sweep nail trends are mannequin hands. Or, nails painted in a nude color similar to your skin tone to give the appearance of being an extension of your hand. Mannequin hands were spotted in abundance at the Golden Globes, and in case you’re wanting to try your hand at it (pun intended) All Lacquered Up  has an entire section dedicated to them.

Keedah over @ Diary of a Style Addictput it best. “The neutral shade won’t clash with bold clothing and compliments subdued attire. Fortunately there’s a shade to match every skin tone and anyone can pull this off.”

Oh, how true. Mannequin hands are like the nude shoe of nails. You can’t go wrong with them.  But is this trend right for you? Of course my forte is in helping you determine that. So, lets evaluate mannequin hands.

Making your nails appear to be an extension of your hand has one outcome. Longer looking fingers. Just as nude shoes give the appearance of longer looking legs. For some this is great, for others this is a nightmare, or it may not matter to you either way. If it does matter, keep the following in mind when deciding on your mannequin hands:

If you have Long Fingers(raises hand) mannequin hands will make them appear longer. If you don’t want longer fingers, but still want mannequin hands; keep your nails short and squared with rounded edges (squoval). Opt for a nude that is one shade darker rather than an exact match or lighter.

If you have Short Fingers, and want longer ones, mannequin hands are perfect for you. Keep your nails at the longest manageable length and rounded. Pointed and oval shape nails will give an even longer appearance. Opt for an exact or lighter shade.

If you have proportionate fingers, meaning your fingers are neither long nor short. You can try mannequin hands in all shapes, sizes and shades.

While you’re at it check out this article from nails mag on how to get the perfect shaped nail.

see, the name throws me…mannequin hands? that just makes me NOT want to paint my nails nude.

but i guess in order to make something “old”, “new” again, it needs a fancy, mod, name, huh? :)
