Makeup Monday: Getting Nude
Here’s Drew Barrymore at the 2010 SAG awards. She is a walking example of a nude look gone wrong. I know nude lips are a hot trend right now, and I am a big fan, but this full on nude face just looks washed out. There’s not a hint of color anywhere on her. Somebody should be fired for forgetting the blush, and fired again if they had it, and forgot to put it on. She looks sick! I just want to pinch her cheeks.
I’m also not a fan of the Monique Lhuillier dress, but the makeup was so hideous, the dress will get a pass. I don’t like the design, but the color was on point and really paired well against her skin tone.
The only good in this is that Drew has found her perfect nude lip. Not an easy task. Here are a few tips to help you find and wear the perfect nude lip.
- You may begin your search by trying on a few shades to get an idea of what you like. Remember to use make up remover between each shade, and not rub too hard. If you rub too much your lips may redden and change the tone of the lipstick you’re trying on.
- Try using your concealer. It’s already your skin tone and will give you an idea of how the nude lip will look on you. You can then pair it with a tinted gloss for more color. Be sure to let the concealer dry completely to avoid a muddy mess.
- Your eyes need to pop. You don’t need to wear a full out smokey eye, but at a minimum eye liner, and a few coats of mascara.
- Lighter colors will make you lips look bigger, while the opposite is true for darker nudes.
- Mattes are really popular now, but can look ashy on darker skin tones. Line your lips with a liner that is a shade darker than your skin tone first, to prevent an ashy ring around your lips and to define them more.
- Exfoliate your lips
- Use a primer or lips plumper to fill in any lines.
