Gabourey Sidibe in Harper’s Bazaar

Gabourey is taking over in February, not only will she be on the cover of V magazine, Harper’s Bazaar will have an article along with a fashion shoot of this “Precious” actress sporting some precious stones from Chopard.

I am extremely over joyed and happy for her. She is truely a friend in my head as Wendy Williams would say. Next to a smile, confidence is the sexiest thing a woman can wear and Gabourey is working it. (And, I am on the side lines like “Yeah! that’s my girl,” Because I am so overwhelmingly glad to see someone as genuine as she is. )

In her interview with HB’s Laura Brown, she said “I feel like a model. It justifies everyone in my life who told me I wouldn’t be anything until I lost weight. It justifies that little girl who cried because she didn’t think she could be in front of the camera. And it’s for other girls who feel like they can’t do this or that and feel like they’re not pretty and not worthy of having their photo taken.” Now, lets just hope she doesn’t go Naomi Campbell on us and start throwing electronics.

I truly believe my friend (in my head) is down to earth and happy with who she is. Her response to Kate Moss’ “Nothing tastes as good a skinny feels.” comment was ” Well, I wouldn’t know, I’ve never been skinny. I’ve heard it before. It’s just one of those things that people say that doesn’t really mean anything in my life.” 

I love that she can fly above all the negativity and be comfortable in the skin she is in. “People always ask me, ‘You have so much confidence. Where did that come from?’ It came from me. One day I decided that I was beautiful, and so I carried out my life as if I was a beautiful girl. I wear colors that I really like, I wear makeup that makes me feel pretty, and it really helps. It doesn’t have anything to do with how the world perceives you. What matters is what you see.
