OK I get it, I’m not welcome in your store.

Have you ever walked into a store and immediately felt out of place? Like the whole ambiance of the store was making you feel uncomfortable? That happened to me this weekend, which is odd because I feel at home next to any rack. I was on a mission for a particular item, that I knew could be found in a certain store. You know the store, but I will be kind and not say the name. I knew the store also, so I knew what to expect, I purposely avoid it for the following reasons:

Before you even get to the store, you can smell it (hint). Not in a bad way, it actually smells nice. I think they have their own brand of perfume/cologne and they have somehow turned it into a extra strong plug-in. Possibly for branding. You know, like how you walk past cinnabon or auntie annies and because it smells so good you just gotta have one? Or like when Mr. puts on Issey Miyake, you just have to ….. (insert your action here, but keep it PG-13)? Like that.

Then, Once you get into the store, you can’t see. It’s too dark! What genius decided it was a good idea to sell clothes in the dark? Probably the same guy who only looks cute under the darkness of a club. Forbid you meet him for lunch. Even the dressing room is dark. I suppose they think they will sell more clothes if you can’t see the price tag, or maybe they’re hoping that you won’t be able to see how bad something looks on you.

The more I think about this, the more I am convinced that the stores’ designer is the cute/ugly club dude. Why? because in addition to all of the above, the music is blaring. And NO, I’m not talking about nice smooth jazz club music, I’m talking shake ya booty on the dance floor, ears bleeding, car dancing, club music. Entirely too loud.  So loud in fact, they never got the chance to hear my stilettos click clack on out of there.

I know some of you already know this guy store. I am not their type target market, and they really made me just want to get out of there. Have any of you had any similar experiences with a retailer? Do you still shop there or do you look for alternatives? Let me know

  1. You have hit on everything I hate about shopping

    1. Too loud music (they play it that loud to chase me out, I swear)
    2. Too dark to even see the clothes
    3. Rude, ignorant sales people (Boutique Onze on Ste-Catherine, Montreal is a prime example of this)
    4. Everything is packed too tightly together to even pull out a hanger without making everything fall on the floor

Thanks for coming by the blog!
